Plextor 40/12/40A CDRW problem

vbimport

Hi,
It may have sound old to most of you but have patience. I have a Plextor CD-RW PX-W4012A. It was working fine for last four years. But a few days back It stopped burning CDs. I am using Verbatum media. Each CD stopped during burn process giving write error. I am using firmware 1.06. Is it dead? or any way to recover it back as I can’t afford another. Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Error detailed log file with Nero is given below.

I’m not familiar with this error. Did you select 4x writing speed? At least i think it’s not the medias fault. Those look like true Verbatims.

Try to run the drives self test:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=49767#general-defective

#3

The 4012 has basically the same self test as the later drives. Check your manual or download the test procedure in the manual.

Another test is to use Nero write transfer test and read transfer test to graph drive response.

BTW, the error 03 0C 07 is a write error and usually related to the media, though if it happens on all discs about the same time into the burn, it could be the drive.

Thanx for having a go through with the problem.

Yes I used 4x speed. but I also tried it on many different speeds result was same. CDs are blue platinum by Mitsubishi Chemical.
I performed the test you suggested. I tried it three times but in each case disc was not ejected. The strange thing was the light kept on blinking green/orange for hours and hours (test described only 9 minutes) and I have to manually shutdown the test. And I was never able to see the error blink described in test.

Another test is to use Nero write transfer test and read transfer test to graph drive response.

I used Plextools Professional LE to perform write/read transfer test. And each time it returned the following error:

write error at 41:09.50
Medium Error (code 030C07)

write error at 47:39.25
Medium Error (code 030C07)

write error at 28:48.00
Medium Error (code 030C07)

Any suggestions? Thanx once again for having time to look at the problem.

True

Arslan if i had to place a bet right now, i would say that it’s probably the drive’s fault. But you’ll never be sure unless you try 3-4 other media kinds, check your wires and move the drive into another pc and check it out.

I think the pick-up of this 4012A is running-out.
