Please help! What's wrong with my drive? :'-(

Hi guys,

I bought a NEC 2510a over a year ago (probably a bit more) and it always worked fine.

Now, the funniest thing is, it never reports any kind of problem. In fact, it always burns without a hitch, even if I do a simulation first…

Some DVDs come out fine (usually just 1 or 2 out of 10), but the rest instantly are “damaged”. The minute it finishes the burn I can put it in another drive and it will be full of CRC error, while the disk I burned before reads perfectly!!! I’ve tried all kinds of media and it’s the same with all of them…

Does this mean my drive is bad?

Maybe a good time to use a CD/DVD cleaner?!

I tried using one of those discs that “clean”… has a soft brush or something…

It’s so weird… :a

Help? :frowning:

I’ve just noticed the drive is Seconday Master… I thought it was Secondary slave… I remember when I flashed to 2.18 NEC firmware it said something about the drive needing to be Secondary Slave…

Could this have something to do with it?

It should be set up as secondary master, what do you have as the secondary slave?

Pioneer DVD-ROM.
