I have an LG GSA-2166D burner. It has been working just fine, until recently. I use DVDFab to burn movies. I use verbatim DVD+R. When I insert the blank DVD, DVDFab comes back with an error telling me to insert a blank disc.
No matter what I try to do, I get this message all the time now. At one point, I have exchange the disc with a new one and it burned, but when I went to play it in my DVD player, it ejected the disc.
Has my burner gone belly up on me?

To be sure that the drive recognize the disc correctly, try to do a little test

Download cd-dvd speed (see link in my signature) and insert a blank media on the drive. Then select the “Disc info” tab: can you see the information on the disc?

I will try that. Unfortunately, I’m not at home to do the test. However, I have also tried the burner in another computer and I got the same results.

#4

Have you got the same result with the same software? To exclude a software issue try to use a different app like ImgBurn for example

#5

I haven’t tried that either. I have AnyDVD and CloneDVD, so I will try that as well. Thanks for the help. I’ll let you know what happens.

I then tried AnyDVD and CloneDVD and when it went to write to the media it came back with an error “failed to burn”

Is my burner a goner? Or is there something moe I can do?

Try to do another test with cd-dvd speed.

Insert a disc on the drive, then select the “create disc” tab. Select a burning speed (I suggest 12x as a first test), then press the start button. This will burn a disc with some random binary data, so the test will cause the waste of a disc, but it’s a necessary sacrifice to test the drive

After completing the test, can you post the picture here? You can save the image clicking on the little floppy button on the high-right corner, and save the picture as PNG file.

Do you have Alcohol installed at all? If so, that could be the culprit for the “Insert blank media” messages.

#9

Can’t this test also be done with rewritable media?

#10

Yes, you can also use a rewritable media :iagree:

I noticed something when I inserted the blank Verbatim DVD+R and checked Nero CD/DVD speed.
“Blank Capacity : n/a”

When I inserted other blank media it says:
"Blank Capacity : 4.38GB"
With this, I was able to burn a disc.

No, I do not have Alcohol installed. What is Alcohoal anyway?

Thanks for all the help.

Okay, it’s back to it’s same ol thing again except this time, it will start the burn and then it will fail at different times during the burn. After it fails, I insert a new disc and it burns completly through, but the DVD will not play in my DVD player.
Any ideas???
