Please help: Failed to initialize the burning engine

Hi everyone,

i have a registered version of DVDFab Platinum/Gold since a few month (working with Vista Home Premium SP 1) and everything is working fine.
But after updating DVDFab 5.1.0.8 beta version to 5.1.1.0 (or any other later version), there’s someting wrong with the burning engine.
After starting the program, a message appears: Failed to initialize the burning engine. I’ve tried to uninstall DVDFab and install it again after re-booting, but it doesn’t work. I’ve done a clean uninstall like StormJumper said, but the problem is the same.
Now i decided to work again with the 5.1.0.8 beta version, 'cause is running fine, but I hope, there has to be any solution for my problem.
I think, the vso is correctly installed (the pcsetup logfile told me).

Thanks for helping me.

Some people have had problems with the VSO Burn Engine since Ver 5.1.1.2

I use the Imageburn ( Free ) burner myself and have had no problems with it.

You will need the newer ver 5.2.3.0 to get the new Lionsgate movies.

Thanx bean55 for your fast reply.

I’ve tried to use the ImgBurn burning engine, but this wouldn’t solve the

problem.

When i go to the writing settings in the DVDFab menu and trying to change

the burning engine in ImgBurn (i have allready the latest version), DVDFab

will shut down (DVDFab Platinum has encountered a problem and needs to

close) and i can’t restart.

I don’t know what to do now. Is there anybody in the forum with an other

good idea ?

Well you could try using one of the guides found below in my signature for doing a "Clean uninstall " and do a little house cleaning while your at it, then re-install DVDFab

Also you will find that ImgBurn is the best burn engine to use with a few settings changes

I have seen where some people have installed an older version of DVDFab, then install the newer version without the vso engine and it has worked for them.

You can try that next and let us know how it goes.

Thanks again to bean55.

Unfortunately running an older vso burning engine from another DVDFab

Plantinum version can’t fix the problem. Again the message appears "Failed to

initialize the burning engine". Shit.

And greets and thanks to StormJumper. I’ve done a complete uninstall of DVD

Fab, but it wouldn’t help me solving my problem. Are you having another idea?

Now now watch the lingo please , it is a family type forum :frowning:

Have you tried switching to ImgBurn as the burn engine ?

I’m sorry StormJumper. I’m getting a little bit crazy about this "burning engine

problem". Unfortunately I can’t change the burning engine, 'cause DVDFab

shuts down while clicking around. I also think ImgBurn is the better burning

engine, I’ve had many problems with VSO so far.

There seems to be many bugs with the VSO burn engine for many users I myself don’t when ever I use it but I like ImgBurn because it gives you more control of your drives write speed.

have you tried using one of the guides below in my signature

Yes, StormJumper. I’ve used the guide of the clean uninstall for Vista. But I’m

sorry, can’t fix the problem with the burning engine failure.

Now, I think I have to use the older version of DVDFab … :frowning:

if re-installing an older version works you can update the program and choose not to install the VSO software thus DVDFab will use the older VSO burn engine, and if it doesn’t work by re-installing an older version there maybe a software/program on your system that is conflicting with DVDFab or the VSO software

Installing an older version, for example the 5.1.0.8beta works. But when I try

to install a new version without installing the VSO software it doesn’t work.

What kind of programs do you mean, maybe conflicting with the new versions

of DVDFab ?(all vers since 5.1.1.0 making problems with the burning engine).

There are a few that will or can cause conflicts, an On-th-fly type program for one

Hi StormJumper, i haven’t got anydvd since a few month. And I’ve uninstalled the Nero Suite in Summer 2007.

syrah 2001

Are you using a 32 bit or 64 bit Vista OS ?

I currently have installed the latest verrsion of DVDFab Platinum of 5.2.3.0, copied the movie "The Mummy’ and used the VSO burning engine and it worked poerfectly for me.

SJ was just giving those two programs as examples… you’re going to have to look at every program on your system that was NOT written by Microsoft to find the one that is causing your problem.

O’C

Hi bean55. I’m using a 32 bit Vista OS. Is this important for the burning engine initialization?
