Please Help! DVDFab Platinum keeps Crashing!

I’ve sent several posts, and an email to Fengtao, but I have not gotten any responses, and this is very annoying!

Every time I try and rip a DVD, it takes 3-4 attempts and 10-12 hours to complete.

The program just slows down to zero and stops encoding, but keeps running, so there are no error messages!

I have a fast machine, lots of memory, and the latest software, and I am NOT burning to a DVD, so I don’t know where to look, or if the DVDFab software just doesn’t work . . .

I’m using DVDFab Platinum to rip DVD’s to WMV files (XBox360 format), and splitting the Chapters.

This generates a list of tasks corresponding to each Chapter I’m ripping.

DVDFab seems to rip several chapters with no problem, but when I look at the Processing screen after a while, I see that it is in the middle of a task, but the Encoding Fps has dropped to Zero, and no progress is being made!

I have tried to pause and resume, or even Finish and start again, but to no avail! I have to quit DVDFab entirely and start it up again to get it to start processing again!

When I look at the log files, it just shows the last task running normally, and then “User Cancelled” when I finally gave up!

Any clues why it just stops encoding??? I’ve let it run all night to see if it starts again, but it doesn’t . . .

This seems to happen around the 8th task or so . . . it rips a number of chapters successfully, and then just stops encoding . . . no error messages . . . just no activity.

Usually, the PC has nothing else running, but it doesn’t seem to matter. I’ve tried two different Vista PC’s, and I get the same result!

Can anyone offer some concrete suggestions?

It’s still happening with the new Beta release!

I’ve narrowed it down- it happens on the 2nd pass- the progress gauge stays at 0.0%, and the encoding fps slowly drops from 60+ down to 0.

What is going on???

Thanks!

There are some other posts about converting slow with the xbox 360 profile, I will bet Fengtao and Ting will have it sorted out soon. It is not just you.

Please try and keep your words grouped together or not so far spaced apart…makes it hard to read when having to scrol the page all the time

I don’t really mind that it’s slow . . . it’s the fact that it won’t finish any project that is disturbing!

Is that a known bug in DVDFab Platinum, or is it something I can fix, and how can I fix it?

Sorry for the long post, SJ  I was trying to accumulate what I have discovered so far, so you would have enough information to offer some assistance . . .

orrinc
Do you have PathPlayer enabled or disabled
dont think it is used during or for the convertion BUT if it is enabled it is used to read the disc and maybe the problem BUT not sure , I never use it and know nothing about it…but it is something to try

#6

I had PathPlayer set to “Enable When Necessary”, but now it’s Disabled. That shouldn’t have made any difference, but I’ll check it tomorrow when I rip another disk.

Thanks for the tip . . .

#7

I was having a lot of problems with the latest beta until I rebooted and they went away.

#8

I have tried the last 3 Betas, and rebooted numerous times, but the problems persist!

Still looking for a solution!!

#9

orrinc why not try to uninstall dvdfab and then reinstall it, reboot then try again. I had it keep crashing on me but after I did this it worked fine.

#10

I spoke too soon about rebooting fixing the problem. It did help the copying, but when I tryed to burn some movies off the HD it no work. Went back to 3.1.8.0 and they worked fine.

#11

I uninstalled it to install the new version- didn’t make any difference!

#12

that all I knew how to fix my problem. Hopefully you find a fix for yours soon

#13

I hope so!! I’m not getting much help here . . .

#14

They are trying

#15

hi, orrinc

I have do a test for this problem, and hope can fix this problem.

Thanks.

#16

thank you Ting. Fengtao Software Inc. is the best.

#17

Ting-

Are you doing a test, or do you have something for me to test??

#18

I installed latest beta- still crashing!

#19

Ting,
Have you fixed these problems in 4.1.0.2?

Have you found a solution yet?

Thanks!

Orrin

#20

hi,

sorry for reply you later, I have finished my test, but my test is not problem,
I guess maybe this problem has happened in some special DVD.
Do you try use other DVD to test it ?
or please just try the chapter where the problem happened ?
