Playing burned DVD's on DVD player

[qanda]This thread is about the Sony RDR-VX555 - DVD recorder/VCR combo. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I could not find the products I have in the above listing. I am burning to a DVD-R disc (Memorex) using a Sony DVD ± R 20X, DVD±RW/±R/RAM/cd burner (Sony DRU-V204A) I am burning Videos made in Movie Maker that contain pictures and music. The discs burn well but I can only play them on my computer. They will not play on my Sony DVD Player/Video Cassette Recorder (SLV-D550P
SLV- D350P) I’m probably wasting my time since my products aren’t listed above but thought I’d give it a try. If anyone answers please keep it as simple as possible!! Thank you for your time. Jim Hesser

Hi hesser and welcome:

You should try better media (Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden). Although your unit should be able to handle -R format, you might have better luck with +R with the bitset changed to DVD-ROM format (I know you said to keep it simple but it’s relatively easy to do).

What speed are you burning at? Here’s an excellent tutorial on burning speed.

I looked at your combo unit on Amazon and the reviews were very poor. so these changes may help.

Nero CD Speed can help with the bitsetting and has many other uses.
