Pioneer & Ritek Media?

Hello,

I’m looking to replace my good old LG GSA-4120 drive and since I totally hate my LiteOn SHM-165H6S (no more LiteOns here) with something like Pioneer 212D.

One thing is that it is very difficult to find any non Ritek media here in Toronto, Canada at a descent price. So have got tons of Riteks here as DVD+R 8x, DVD-R 8x, DVD+R DL 2.4X. I would like to know if 212 would burn these DVDs well enough.

Thanks in advance

Just don’t use the RITEK 8x DVD-R (RITEK G05) because it will degrade.
The RITEK 2.4x DVD+R DL (RITEK D01) are famous for being troublemakers as well.
Your Pioneer may burn them, but if you need stability and archival quality, I would rather recommend sticking to Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and other high quality brands.

Ditto

But the problem is that it is almost impossible to find good quality media here in Toronto, every major store sells crap. I bought Maxell, Sony, Fujitsu brands and in the end all of them are Riteks… Finally found some 8x TY media, totally unbranded, but it gives burn quality worse then Ritek… amazingly…

Forgot to mention Memorex, TDK and Kodak.

If you can buy online, what about www.blankmedia.ca ?

I have the same problem here. Those damn cheap nasty Ritek
+Rs always me give better results than TY or Verbatim. The
only discs that come close are TDK branded 8X +R YUDEN000T02.

Did you scan them in a Liteon??

Yep! Those ones were scanned in a Liteon. They give great
scan results in the BenQ too. The BenQ also does a very
good job of burning them.

The LG GSA-H22N doesn’t like them as much:
