Pioneer DVR106D Firmware issue?

I have a Pioneer DVR106D and it is supposed to read DVDs at a max rate of 12X.

If I rip DVD’s at 6X max I am lucky. My firmware is v1.08 which is the latest version I can find. I read somewhere that this slow speed may be a firmware issue with V1.08 and the I need to reflash to V 1.07. My computer is fast so that is not an issue.

Can anyone tell me if this is typical speed and is there anyway to increase the rip speed to 12x? I have been using Ritkek Ridata G04 4X DVD-r media primarily. Could the media be the issue. The burner works flawlessly and reads any disc. I rarely have a coaster with the Ritek DVD-R’s

Have you checked your DMA settings? The speed of your PC doesn’t have anything to do with limitations in firmware.

No sir I have not checked my DMA settings. How would I do that?
