My Pioneer DVR-X152 external USB DVD burner is just out of warranty, so of course, the DVD part has died. It will not read any data or video DVD on any computer it's plugged into. I already tried updating the firmware with no luck. I think the DVD laser is toast.
It looks like the drive itself is a standard IDE drive, so is there any reason I can't just pop another IDE DVD burner in the USB case? I have a good spare HP lightscribe burner that I was planning on using for just such a purpose.
