This is what I did to solve the issue (although I do not understand why it worked).
I reformatted and installed the 2nd drive (10 GB) as the primary with a fresh install of XP Pro.
I used the drive to write a few times. Then, since my 80 GB HD was my primary, I plugged it back in as such and forgot to unplug the IDE from the DVD-R. I was waiting for the BSOD, however, it never arrived. And still hasn't.
I am PC literate, and can only use the excuse that my PC had to "warm up" to the drive. Otherwise, my issue is solved here, and I wish the best of luck to everyone else.
The person that has coached me about DVD writing recommended that a fresh install be done of your OS at least twice a year (either by Ghost, or otherwise), and immediately upon installing the Pioneer Drive. I never had to, just got lucky.
