I am unable to read any DVD-ROM nor am I able to read and DVD- Vidoe media! I am using the latest FW (1.10) on my DVR-S16J.
Any idea?
I am running Vista x64.

Other types of disks work fine?
Can those dvd-rom disks be read in another drive?

Yes, all other types work fine with another drive. What am encountering is none of DVD-ROM, Video or software DVD are recognized except Audio CDs on this particular drive for some reason although the drive is meant to read DVD-ROM, DVD-ROM and other types as you probably know.

I would try to carefully open the drive and clean the lens with a soft cloth.
But carefully, so that you don’t damage it.
It’s possible that it’s just dirty and that is the cause.

I tried all the possible maintenance steps such as lens cleaning with chemical. checked all the mechanical movement, none has resulted to change any bit. I tried both DOS & Windows environment while also changing the drive from one system to another with different OS, yet no change. The drive is superior while reading Audi CD, but while reading any DVD type of media, there it fails! I connect the drive through 3Gb sata, I tried connecting different channels, no change yet!
The Nero Info detects that it reads DVD Roms, but actually it does not! I am not sure what else can I do!

I had exactly the same problem with a LiteOn drive a few years back. In my case the drive was still under warranty and it was replaced by the shop I bought it from as faulty.

The irony is that I replaced the drive with a similar one, the problem still persist! Notably the behavior in both is the same while reading media disks. They both read the same way while both cannot read any video disks nor software DVD. I am sick of this trouble.
