I ordered myself a DVR-215DBK because I read a lot positive things about this drive. After I received I built it in my PC, all seemed to be fine, the drive would open and was detected by the motherboard. Once in Windows the drive was seen and drivers were installed automatically.
I tried to insert a disc to see if it would play, well it didn’t. The drive does nothing when it is closed with a disc in, the front led gives a little flash and then it’s nothing, no spinning up or anything. When I try to read the drive from my computer it tells me there is no disc inside and then the drive ejects.
I figured it could be a firmware thing, it had v1.13 on so I decided to upgrade to v1.18, because I wanted to do it good right away I patched the firmware to region free and I added bitsetting. The flashing went fine and successful, after a reboot drivers were installed again but the drive still wouldn’t read discs. To make sure it wasn’t a Windows thing I tried to boot from my Vista DVD but that wouldn’t work. I’m really sure the drive was DOA.
Now it already sucks I have to pay the costs to get the thing shipped back to the webshop I bought it from, but it sucks even more if they won’t replace the drive because I flashed it, what do you guys recommend me to do? Can I still flash it to original v1.18 firmware?
Thanks in advance,
This is YOUR fault and therefore you should buy a new drive.
