Is this a decent burn. I burned the Data Disc with the DVR-215D the 1.22 firmware is patched using MediaCodeEdit with all of the options selected except for the burn heuristics.

I had to read it using a Samsung SH-S223Q (w/patched fw) because the 215D does not support quality scans.

I don’t know how to read these things.

Also, what software should I use for a quality scan with the DVR-215D? Is it even necessary? or will all drives (for the most part) read the same quality? [rephrased] does it matter that I burn on one drive and then scan on another from the results?

Thanks,
JOe K.

IS THIS A GOOD SCORE?

This next burn is one of a movie I am backing up.

Notice how the burn quality is much lower. Is this a bad score? Would this DVD more prone to skipping?

Is a quality scan on a movie worse compared to a test disc create with CD-DVD Speed?

Any ideas?

is it possible to go back to F.W v1.18 ?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply

I’ll give 1.18 firmware a try.

Do you or anyone know the answers to these questions:

Also, what software should I use for a quality scan with the DVR-215D? Is it even necessary? Does it matter that I burn on one drive and then scan on another from the results?

Is this 93% a bad score? Would this DVD more prone to skipping?

Is a quality scan on a movie worse compared to a test disc create with CD-DVD Speed?

Thanks,
JOe K.

I’ll give that a shot and post my results tomorrow or wednesday.

Should I test with a movie or data disc? Does it matter which?

Would that be classified as a bad scan?

lowering the burn speed would bring the most improvement. i know TYG03 is Taiyo Yuden media but i dont like it. [when compared to other TY mids or verbs]

I just read the entire guide on CD-DVD speed. I pretty much figured out that I should use a “Create Disk” DVD to do quality tests.

It looks like I am going to be “burning” through a spindle trying to get this figured out.

How are your overall burn quality scores better than mine?

Your scans have more PI failures and PI errors yet the quality score is higher.

Results so far:

All burns received a 90% score as per my Samsung SH-S223Q reader (the pioneer does not support disc quality). I am assuming since I am not given the option to set between ECC1 and ECC8 it is at ECC1 due to the max PI Failures is between 3 and 4.

The next four posts are going to be 1.22 firmware patched with RPC1, Bitsetting, and increased readspeed. The data disks (TYG03) were recorded at 4X, 8X, 16X, and 20X speeds. Again this was recorded with a DVR-215D 1.22 (patched FW)

Out of the patched 1.18 fw the 20X burn seemed to fair the best.

Am I wrong to assume that? How does this burn quality look to you?

Thanks,

JOe K.
