I have the Pioneer DVR 112D with 1.06 firmware on Suse 10.0 Linux.
I am using K3b to burn DVDs with the dvd-rw+tools (version 188.8.131.52.8-9 i586).
I haven’t been able to burn a single readable DVD+R on FujiFilm 8x media (Tayo Yuden dye). All burns finish successfully but the disc is unrecognizable because apparently the book type bit hasn’t been set correctly.
At least when I reinsert the disc K3b compains that no CDDB data entries can be found and I also get the following error message from dmesg:
cpp@linux:~> dmesg|tail -500 | grep cdrom
cdrom: This disc doesn’t have any tracks I recognize!
Here is what I get when I want to find out the book type:
linux:/home/cpp # dvd+rw-booktype -inq /dev/hdb
Can’t inquiry unit settings, you have to set booktype prior every recording to be sure.
This command also fails like this on a readable DVD-R disc.
I cannot set the book type bit to DVD-ROM before burning:
linux:/home/cpp # dvd+rw-booktype -dvd-rom -unit+r /dev/hdb
:-[ BTC_FAh failed with SK=5h/ASC=24h/ACQ=00h]: Input/output error
The burner is /dev/hdb.
I know that there is a new firmware out for this burner but I don’t know how to flash the drive under Linux (Pioneer only has a Windows executable).
Would that firmware upgrade resolve the issues?
I can’t burn DVD-R in DAO too well either (Sony Media ID: SONY16D1 or
FujiFilm made in India blanks).
.The first burn succeeds and all subsequent ones fail halfway through.
Does anyone have some experience with this drive under Suse 10.0?
bamboozled and confused.
