PIONEER DVR-112D Burning failure

I’m suddenly getting problems with the DVD I am burning. They are all from the same stock, I didn’t change any. Here is a log from Nero. I didn’t save the 1st one, because I thought it was just a fluke, but here is the 2nd DVD log that wasn’t burnt good.

Is the drive the problem? When the 1st DVD failured, the error was “Device unavailable” or something to that effect, it happened around 15% into the burn. The failure above was produced around 94% into the burn :a

@ Hex7d0,

A couple of observations from the information posting in your initial posting in this thread ->

The blank CMC Magnetics AM3 DVD-R media you are attempting to use is not noted to be stellar Media and has proven to be very problematic. Suggest obtaining known proven quality Media that consistently produces quality error free results such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Media.

Your Pioneer DVR-112D has old out dated version 1.09 Firmware and the newest most current up to date Firmware is version 1.21. Suggested that you update your Pioneer DVR-112D to the newest most current up to date 1.21 version Firmware.

The Nero software you are using is outdated. Suggest visiting the Nero Web Site (http://www.nero.com) and obtain the newest most current up to date version available.

Although you have 510MB RAM you do not have a lot of Free Physical Memory available (87% Memory In Use/Only 65MB Free Memory) which indicates that you have a lot of BackGround MultiTask running when you are attempting to conduct Burning. This high amount of Memory In Use /only 65MB Free Memory Available can easily cause all kinds of performance difficulties. Suggest that you curtail all unnecessary BackGround MultiTask to free up Free Physical Memory. Suggest viewing the below Web Link that details how to use MSCONFIG to configure Windows Startup to load only absolute necessary items. You will be surprised at all the unnecessary Memory and Resource wasting items that are automatically loaded during Windows Startup. Suggest when visiting the below referenced Web Link to also check out Paul “PacMan” Collins’ huge “Startup Applications” list (http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php).

Hi, thanks for your reply, I’m not running anything that isn’t usually running.

All processes have their CPU usuage around 0% also, except for Nero and of course the System Idle Process. There isn’t much need to use msconfig as its just as easy to see what is running/being startup from the registry and the respective ini files, and from Right-clicking My Computer, selecting manage and then selecting Services and Application which shows much more process info and managment options that msconfig.

Also I know of the firmware, but since it has been working since I purchased the drive with these same DVD-Rs that I am using, and 40 of the DVD from the 50pack have been burnt with it, I am finding it strange that the last 2 DVDs failed, giving two different errors. Also when the 1st DVD failed and gave the “Device Not Ready” error, I could not eject the disc, either from the software, or the manual eject button on the front of the drive.

I would reboot and try though, although I would try a simulation 1st. I don’t want to loose more precious blanks! :S . I can’t change the firmware, otherwise I can’t try and return the drive RMA from the place I bought it.

@ Hex7d0,

You in fact have a lot of background operations running to only have 65MB of Free Memory available. Something is using 87% your Memory.

There are valid reasons to have the latest version of Firmware. Drive manufactures strive with each firmware release to improve the write strategies of Media Codes. Improving Media Code write strategies is one of the reasons that Drive Manufactures release new updated firmware.

You most certainly can flash your Drive without losing Warranty coverage. Flashing your Pioneer DVR-112D drive with authorized PioneerDVR-112D Firmware does NOT void the Warranty of your Drive. Losing Warranty coverage only applies when flashing your drive with the wrong or modified unauthorized Firmware.

As stated CMC Magnetics AM3 DVD-R Media is problematic Media. One of the “problematic” areas is erratic poor quality control. It is not unusual of one CMC Magnetics AM3 DVD-R Media Disk burn correctly without any problems but the next CMC Magnetics AM3 DVD-R Media Disk in the stack prove to be defective.

Okay, thanks, I would flash the drive. I called and asked the salesperson about it and she wasn’t sure what I meant anyway.

I try not to buy any of these CMC discs (most of them carry the Phillips label), but that seems to be all we have here. I recently had some white opaque (the top) Iomega discs which I was told (from users on here) were good. But the computer stores don’t carry them, or Benq anymore. Seems they are only carrying these cheaper brands. :frowning:

PS. I’m in Trinidad and Tobago so don’t have much variety here.

This is also BAD:

Multisession type: : Start multisession

Disable it.
