Pioneer DVR-111D issues

Hi guys, I’m new here. Recently I’ve built a new computer and my DVD burner have stopped working in the new computer. The drive worked fine on my old system which was XP, but in the new system with Vista, the DVD burner will not burn anything. It reads fine, but burning does not work. I’ve even tried Vista’s burning program, but that doesn’t work either. Nero says that recorder state failed. I’m pretty sure I have a IDE-80pin cable, it came with the mother board. The BIOS recognizes that it’s the master drive as well. I also have the latest firmware of 1.29. Is it possible that this drive is not compatible with Vista?

The system specs are:
Mobo: Biostar Tforce p954
CPU: Intel E6400
Ram: Cosair 2gig
OS: Windows Vista home premium, fully updated
Nero: 7.9.6.0
Media: Fujifilm DVD-R, 120min, 4.7gig, to 16x

Here’s the log, I know the log says simulation, but I don’t want to make any more coasters.

Don’t use Multisession Mode on DVD and use better media.

Vi$ta? A waste…

I know, I regret getting vista. Hmmm is there a reason why this media won’t work? It worked before. What media should I use instead?

@ BatmanJohnson,

Although you stated your were using FuiiFilm Media the Media was actually manufactured by Prodisc Media which on many occasions produces problematic Media.

Suggest Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim for Media that consistently produces quality error free results.

Suggest visiting the CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) for information on known proven quality Media.

Regards,
bjkg

Cool, thanks for the help guys. I’ll see about getting better media and burn all at once.

Sorry to double post. I’ve switched to another media, this time it’s CD instead of DVD. I still get the same Synchronous data transfer error. I’ve tried using ashampoo to burn and same thing happened. I’ve even tried to flash firmware to Dangerous Brothers 8.29. I get a available target not found error.

Is the drive in UDMA4 mode?

Then there is something wrong with the mobo controller/setting.

I’m not sure if it is. Should it be in UDMA4 mode? This is what I get when I click on the third ATA Channel 0. The first one is blank, the second one says ATA disk/ UDMA5, this screenshot is the third one.

Oh, and my bios recognizes my burner as IDE Channel 0 Master, and my HDD as SATA Device 1. Is that normal?

Thanks again Chef, I appreciate all the help.

Issue resolved! I forgot to update BIOS. So there’s the solution! Update bios ppl! lol Thanks to all again.

Hello Batman and others - I’m having the same trouble with the Pioneer 111D. I have an ASUS P5B-VM motherboard and I am running Vista 64 Home Premium. Vista will not recognise blank CDs/DVDs and Windows DVD maker does not recognise that the DVD Writer is installed. I have had to resort to a separate burning program to even make data CDs/DVDs.

I tried to reproduce the steps that you took to fix the problem, but my bios setup makes no reference to UDMA4… even though it seems to recognise the drive OK.

Windows seems to have recognised the 111D as a SCSI device (that’s what the driver description says) even though it is definitely an IDE/ATA drive (is that as it should be?)

I have flashed the mobo BIOS to the latest revision, I have also flashed the 111D to V1.29. I have also deleted an “UpperFilters” registry entry as instructed by a Microsoft support post. All to no avail.

I would be most grateful for any guidance and suggestions. Batman if you could explain in some more detail what you did to solve your problem that would be great!

  1. Best suggestion were given above, update the BIOS.

  2. Not as SCSI drive, it just uses SCSI commands. What drive does the devicemanager show?

I misunderstood BatmanJohnsons last post - I had already updated the BIOS to latest version available - This happened last week.

Device Manager lists the device as: “PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D SCSI CDRom Device” Which seems correct… Maybe there is something wrong with the other Windows programs (ie DVD maker etc), rather the installation settings.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529
suggests using regedit to set the Drive Type value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives in the windows registry to 2.

Found the Key alright but there was no Drive Type value to change

Thanks for reply CHEF… I will keep searching for the answer. If you can think of something I would appreciate it if you let me know.

If there is no entry, maybe you need to create one.

Make a backup before!!!

Tried it, but did not work - So i went on the hunt again at another forum.

It seems that the JMicron RAID controlled driver interferes with the IDE/PATA system on my main board. I have a single drive so i was overzealous in installing the raid driver in the first place (!! who would think?). I uninstalled the JMB36X driver an now everything works fine.

Here is the post I found - In the thread two different users describe two different ways to fix the problem, but it seems to me that both fixes are different ways to achieve the same resut…

Thanks for trying to help Chef
