Pioneer DVR-109 Woes

I am currently low on time to solve my current issue at hand by myself and would greatly appreciate any help that any of you all may have to offer.

I used to be able to burn at 16x using Verbatim DVD-R 16x media on my Pioneer DVR-109 drive for quite some time without any problems. But, for some odd reason, now I can only successfully burn at 4x. This problem started occuring before I upgraded from Nero v6.0.6.blah.blah to Nero v7.0 - So I am assuming Nero v7.0 is not the issue.

Here is an error log from a recent attempted 16x burn:

Nero 7.0.0.0. is the issue, because it’s buggy. Update.
Try to burn at 12x or 8x and see if that helps.

Nero 7.x.x.x is full of bugs. :a
Rollback to 6.6.0.18.
Wait for several months before install Nero 7. :iagree:

wow! that was quick!

Turn DMA on …

I do not understand why DMA is being reported as off when XP is reporting it as being on…I will post system specs later…It may be some issue with my sys…Long story… :\ I have to go for now, but I will explain when I have more time. Thanks for all the input so far from you all.

I have tried all speeds…Only 4x works… :\ (in regards to chef’s comment)

Yeah, exactly. DMA is off for all drives - it’s clear why you can’t burn faster!

BTW, what firmware is on your drive, official or patched?

Go into device manager and your Bios//both and set your drives and IDE as required!
Also the 109 is a UMDA4 device//master and a 80 wire cable will be nice!

I have tried official, I have tried cross-flashing and I have tried RPC-1 and all have the same results.

Also, everytime I try to run Nero InfoTool to save or print a system report it just locks up everytime. Anyone know a way around this?

I have already done this…The BIOS and Windows both report them as on.

Weird…

Is it really on an 80wire UDMA IDE cable, running at UDMA4 mode?

Remove your ASPI drivers with killaspi.bat from the forceaspi package.
For the other problem you should remove you NVidea IDE driver. Instructions are in the FAQ of the Plextor forum.

Yes, I promise.

I did all of this and so far things have been somewhat better. Yay, thanks. But 16x, 12x and 8x burns are still failing every now and then.

Also, I still can’t seem to get Nero InfoTool to save or print the info, it always seems to lock up, forcing me to power off/on.

Here is my last error log:

Also, two quick notes…I store all of my ISO/IMG files that I am burning on a Maxtor One Touch II External HD via USB 2.0 - I have tried using firewire instead to see if the USB 2.0 might have been an issue, but that was not the case.

I have tried using DVD Decrypter to burn and I get the same type of probs…

“Internal target failure” is really not a good sign.

Solution?

Mh, maybe test it in another computer.
And try with quality media at lower speeds, of course.

I have always been using Verbatim media…I will try in another pc soon. Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated.
