G’day all,

In the following messages I will post some KProbe scans of discs recorded on my Pioneer DVR-107D with firmware version 1.15.

Obviously Pioneer have improved the write strategy for this media with this firmware update, as the burn quality of these discs with the previous (1.13) firmware was very poor.

Mmm… thanks for the update. But usually I thought the Japanese firmware site should always have the latest firmware first. I’ll wait a bit. :iagree:

Ignore the large single spikes (a glitch with the LiteON DVD Burner) and you have yourself a good scan. Not a bad result here.

These are the same discs that burn with <1.0 average PI and 0.00 average PO on my LDW-451S@851S GS0F. To be honest, I’m quite disappointed with the results with these discs in the Pioneer. The start of the burn looks great, but towards the middle of the disc, PI levels go through the roof and PO levels also head the same direction. Looks like Pioneer’s got some work to do on their DVD+R write strategies! :a

EDIT: This forum does not display all the characters of this manufacturer’s ID!!!

I’m interested in Ritek results - there has been a thread about how 1.13 didnt write as well to Riteks - so I am sticking to 1.10 unless 1.15 fixes the problem.

#10

It says that you can’t go back to an older firmware with 1.15. Have you previously been able to do that?

#11

has anyone been able to sucessfully burn Verbatim DVD+R (8x certified)@8x without problems with this firmware?

#12

That’s the only media that I use these days in my 107.

I upgraded the firmware to 1.15 and I’m still getting really sweet burns.

#13

mad-marco, have you checked the dvds you’re burning? cuz i didn’t get any errors in the writing process but i couldn’t read the end of the disc. I recorded twice a dvd with RNM with about 22 files, ~170MB per file and the last 5 were unreadable (they started giving me problems at the exact point), as soon as i returned to 1.13 the discs were ok again

#14

This one is burned to the edge…
This is with 1.15 official fw.
Couldn’t get anywhere near this with NIL>1.13

#15

Yup, as you can see, 1.15 really improves media compatibility in general, especially with new 8x media!

my 107d was acting a bit erratic on the 113 hacked firmware with some disks (laser but really media id’d as Vanguard) so i loaded 115 and now it records fine. As smooth as a babys bum!

It didnt want to up date the firware so i replaced the 113 package with the 115 file, altered the pif file and then it updaed the firmware all ok. Im not sure if the rip speed has been effected yet. will report onthat later on.

Bugger, rip speed appears to be limited started off at 2 times slowly increasing to 3 at 35% mark of dvd and it feels smooth too but just slow. I spose i will have to wait to see what the next hacked version is.

Not seeing those kinds of results here… What brand are your Ricohjpn’s?

This is with DVR-107D fw 1.15 burned at 4x with Record Now DX.
Sold as Maxell 1x-4x DVD +R.

Hi ssjkakaroto,

Yes I have checked the quality of the discs, I’m Mr Paranoia  so I check all discs that I burn. First I read the contents back on my Pioneer 120S and then do a kprobe scan on my LiteOn 411. I reject any disc that I can’t read back (obvious doh) and also reject any disk with a PI > 50 ave and a PO > 0.5 ave. As I’ve said before I only burn Verbatim 8x DVD+R certified these days so I have a near perfect burn rate now.

If 1.13 works for you then I would sit 1.15 out and wait for the next one to come along.

Happy Burning,

Marco
