I just updated my DVR-107D from Firmware 1.13 to 1.16. During the update, a message appeared stating that I remove the media (no media was in the drive) and then stated that the update was successful. However, when I checked the firmware it still stated that it was 1.13. I even tried to reboot but it still stated that it was 1.13. I tried to update the firmware again to 1.16 but I received the following message: ‘Failed to move to the kernel mode. Update program is terminated by occuring an error.’ I even tried to update the firmware to 1.15 but I still get the same error message. Is my drive toast?

The main reason I updated the firmware was because I kept on getting I/O error messages (30 times - see attachment) when I tried to burn a image file on to a Ritek DVD-R 4x media. This is the first time I got this error message and I have burned at least 20 Ritek DVD-R 4x successfully. I also know that the image is good because I had successfully burned it on a Maxel DVD+RW 4x media.

#8

did you use the official upgdvd from pionneer or dvrflash 1.2?
i recommend using the latter program.

#9

oke for us that dont get those graphs that well, is 1.16 good?

#10

I used the official upgdvd from pionneer and then tried dvrflash 1.2 with the DVR-107D v1.13 - RPC-1 + 12xRip + nx4all.zip. I got the same results using both methods. I just tried using dvrflash 1.2 with 1.16, here is the result:

#11

try this firmware package, its the official 1.13 with official kernel files.
http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/PIONEER/DVR-107D/OFFICIAL/OFFICIAL_PioneerDVR-107_v1.13+KERNEL_DVRFlash.zip

if it succeeds, then flashing the latest 1.16 shouldnt be a problem.

Did you read this on Pioneer site:

The firmware updater may not function with the drive connected to an IDE RAID controller port. This is indicated by receiving a message to remove an inserted DVD disc. Connect the drive to IDE Port 2 Drive set as Master. After updating you can return it to where it was connected.

#13

Thanks, I’ll try out the patches.

Screw24 … My drive is connected to the IDE Port 2 as Master and is the only drive connected to the IDE Port 2. All my HDDs are connect to the IDE RAID controller. Here is my configuration:

  • Gigabyte GA-7DXR
  • Athlon 2400XP
  • 512x2 Kingston DDR 2100
  • Teac 24x10x24 CD-RW on IDE port 1 as master
  • Lite-on DVD-Rom 16x on IDE Port 1 as slave
  • Pioneer DVR-107D on IDE Port 2 as master
  • WD 120gig on IDE port 3 cable select
  • Seagate 200gig on IDE port4 cable select
  • WD 80gig on IDE port 4 cable select
  • ATI 9600 Radeon

#14

I tried using the OFFICIAL_PioneerDVR-107_v1.13+KERNEL_DVRFlash.zip but still couldn’t update the firmware.

Is there anything else I can try or is the drive dead?

#15

Try this syntax for DVRFlash:

dvrflash -vf x.y.z [file1] [file2]

…where x.y.z is the SCSI ID of your drive, and file1/file2 are the names of the kernel/normal parts of the firmware.

I tried dvrflash using the x.y.z parameters and I still got the same error message.

Hey Sassas Man.

I am confused. How did you burn a 4 times media at 6 times?
I thought the official firmware chose the burn speed according to the disk being read and then compared to its burn tables. That would limit 4 times media to writing to the dvd at 4 times only.

When i tried the official 1.15 i had that problem and could not shift it in either burning in dvddecrypter 3.2.20 or Nero6. I had to revert back to 1.13 hacked to burn faster than the disk’s rated speed. I have found that i do a test burn a few times and if that works ok then most likely the real burn will work ok. Also increasing the cache in DVDDecrypter from its 20meg to about 60meg seems to make it much smoother for me. Perhaps due to a slower computer. 1.8ghz athlon xp but only 100mhz bus speed.

All the best and hope you can make me go back to official software with still fast burns.

Minsik…

I think it’s 8x media. http://www.nierle1.com/s01.php?sid=PG002667089925328989925328989925&shopid=s01&cur=eur&sp=en&ag=1&os=1&br=1&pp=aa&bnr=2178 -I like these discs but they don’t work 100% when written @ 8x. At 6x they are really good with 107.

Thanks for your help. I was finally able to update the firmware. I needed to boot with a DOS disk and update it from there. However, I still get a Device I/O error when I use DVD Encrypter v3.2.2.0 I tried uninstalling and re-installing DVD Encrypter but I still get the same error message. I am however able to use Nero without any problems. Do I need to change any settings to DVD Encrypter?
