I am the owner of the Pioneer DVD-105S, a 3 year old slot DVD Rom for those who remember it. I have the 1.22 region-free firware installed right from the very first day I bough it and the drive is recognised as DVD-105F 1.22. Well, although I've been using it for 3 years, I have just noticed that the drive's DVD reading speed aweful.
I loaded a single layer PC Magazine disk and run Nero CD-DVD speed and to my amazement the read speed was 2.3x !!! According to THIS review, the drive should read the DVD at 15000 kb/s, however the speed I get is not even close.
The drive is secondary master and there's no slave in that IDE channel. When I go into Device Manager however, although I choose DMA if available, the drive is in PIO mode...
Can anyone please explain how I can deal with this ?
I have an Asus P4P800 mainboard and I'm running WinXp Pro SP1.
Thanks in advance for any help.
