For some reason, burning a DVD with a S09-XLT gave me a lower quality burn than a LG GH24NS90. Is that normal? I can’t scan Blu-ray discs since I don’t have any unit that is capable of scanning them.

What DVD media are you burning? At what speed? Care to share some scans?

Sure, there you go:

LG GH24NS90 - Verbatim DVD-R (MCC 03RG20) Recorded at 16x

Pioneer BDR-S09 - Verbatim DVD-R (MCC 03RG20) Recorded at 16x

My LG DVD burner does scans for some reason, I don’t know why. As you can see, there are more errors with the Pioneer burn. Both discs contain the same information without changes.

The PIF are very close.

The PIE are also not toooo different.

I would say this is normal. With a different batch of MCC 03RG20, things might change.

A different scanning drive might also disagree with the LG. There are many possibilities. Overall, they are very close in quality.

Hm… I didn’t consider that. The discs are from different batches anyway, so that may be it. I still updated the firmware to 1.34 because the drive had an old one (1.31).

I had to do it with DVRTool because the official updater didn’t work.
