Are these drives £19.99 yet?

Why only 12X for DVDR? Seems like BD tech brings the whole thing down in performance.

@BenJeremy: No different from CD tech being brought down in performance during the first several generations of DVD burners. As it happens, BD-ROM’s now max out at 5x, and HDDVD-ROMs at … 1x. LOL

"No different from CD tech being brought down in performance during the first several generations of DVD burners. " The problem, though, is this is NOT a BD burner - it’s a BD reader with DVD burner capability. In that respect, there’s no technical reason for it not to be a 16X/40X burner on the DVD/CD side of things. As for the comment about HD vs BD, that isn’t the issue here, but since you bring it up, it’s pretty lame to compare HD’s 1X write performance against BD’s 5X read performance. Not the same thing at all.

in the initial days of DVD writers, there were no real reasons why the CD technology side was kept down, except to make it easier to get good results from the drive. The same applies to the BD-ROM combo DVD/CD burner. And if you read my message, I CLEARLY said BD-ROM and HDDVD-ROM, not 5x BD read vs. 1x HDDVD write. But I agree, it would have been silly if I had said that
