I disagree, I've had a Pioneer dvr-7000 and I've never had any problems. And you've got to love the DV in/output, no one else offers that. It has been determined in serveral forum's surveys/research that DVD-R is most compatible with the average dvd player. Your point is accurate about DVD-ram but it is not compatible most DVD players. You can't take it to friend's house and watch it. Even if were to record on DVD-RW VR format, more players are starting to be compatible with this (I went to Walmart recently & saw them there). Any if you are going to use for home purposes then that's what the hard drive is for. If you want it on a disk transfer it to a compatible format. I just sold mine 2 mos ago with the anticipation of the new ones coming out, so I'm ready!!
