Pioneer 112D goes missing

I am trying to work out why my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D is hanging.
I had firmware 1.09 and upgraded to 1.21 thinking that would fix it…no way.

On any DVD’s I have burned, it has no trouble reading the disk, while a DVD containing programs I have previously installed is not recognised and the screen showing C,D,E etc drives hangs until I eject the DVD. At times I have to eject manually - using a paper clip to open the drive door.

I heard Alcohol can conflict with burners so have deleted that and cleaned up the registry.

I’ve had this drive for several months and it has been working fine till the big hang.

Earleir tonight I installed all Win2k updates [that the version I have], DirectX and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. No improvement.

Please excuse me if this is in the wrong place or to long.
Can you advise what I should be looking for to rectify this issue.
