Pioneer 110 firmware weakness

After several test on blank DVDs, I found that DVR-110 firmware has a weakness :frowning:

Look at attachment files (f/w 1.37) and below (f/w 1.39)

Media Code Speed Edit V 1.0.8.3

Firmware: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110 1.39 05/12/22
Bootcode:

DVD+R supported media types: 72

AML_____ 002 8x,6x,4x
BeAll000 P40 4x,2.4x
BeAll000 P80 8x,6x,4x
BeAll000 PG0 12x,8x,6x,4x
CMC MAG_ E01 8x,6x,4x
CMC MAG_ F01 4x,2.4x
CMC MAG_ M01 8x,6x,4x ← (MID TDK DVD+R 16x)
CMC MAG_ R01 2.4x
DAXON___ AZ2 6x,4x ← (MID BENQ DVD+R 8x)
DAXON___ AZ3 16x,12x,8x,6x,4x
DAXON___ CY3 12x,8x,6x,4x

What’s wrong ???

This thread has been moved from the Pioneer standaone forum to the Asus DVD Burner / Pioneer DVD Burner forum as the Pioneer 110 is an IDE drive (not one that goes under the TV)

Thank you Mr moderator

Any comment ???

thx for the info, gonna do some testing tonite cos just bought this drive few hrs ago

This is no drive weakness, but a media weakness, IMO.
If these media is good enough then we will see another firmware update, be assured of that.

How come the media is working as rated on Benq (1640) drive ?

Is Pioneer BenQ???

@chef
Do you mean that Benq (1640) is better than Pioneer (110) ?

he means that a Pioneer is not a BenQ

maybe BenQ could handle CMC media better than Pioneer.

I have a 1640 and a 110, even though the 1640 supports 8x burning the 110 drive does a far better job at 6x! on CMC MAG E01!

That’s the point.

If Pioneer would support lower quality media at higher speeds it would bring them bad posts, bad reviews, bad propaganda, just for a few less seconds…
It’s not worth that.

Plenty of drives support CMC E01 at 12x with excellent results, and BenQ’s can burn Daxon AZ2 at 12x with decent results. Most drives can burn Daxon AZ2 at its rated speed with fine results. I don’t think Pioneer has mastered this new chipset they’re using on the DVR-110D yet, that’s the issue.

Just rechecked my logs, sorry about the “plenty” reference as only my DVR-109 supported CMC E01 at 12x though I’ll need to check my BenQ’s again. The DVR-109 will burn both of my Memorex and TDK branded CMC E01 at 12x with quality scores of 98, jitter around 9% and ~250 total PIF’s. It’s certainly not a media quality issue. On the same discs, the DVR-110D with firmware 1.39 finally burns CMC E01 at 8x, though with > 1000 total PIF’s albeit a lower PIE rate than the DVR-109. Burns are around 2 mins quicker now with a higher quality score (95 vs 92) and about half the total PIF’s compared to 1.17. Improving, but still below par on this media compared to most of my other burners in terms of PIF rates and quality scores with baseline batches of this media.

Here’s an example of Daxon AZ2 burned at 12x on a DW1620 B7W9. Burn time was 6:44.
