Pioneer 109 Problem , please help!

I am tearing my hair out, i seem to have an intermittent problem with my dvd writer, which up till a couple of months ago was working fine.

I have just burnt a DVD image , at x8 speed , even though i have x16 speed discs. I then drive to burn another copy of the same image at the same speed and i recieve an error saying unspecified recorder error. (I have attached the log below!)

I first started getting problems with nero 6 , so upgraded to 7, i should be able to burn at x16 speed but it won’t seem to let me. The media i am using and up to this point have had no problem with before is DVD-R Ininiti discs.

The drive is in an Dell Dimension 8400 computer, which i believe is plugged into it’s own IDE connect on the system board. I have also updated the drive to the latest firmware.

The error log is below , think i have covered everything , hope you can please help or point me in the right direction.

Whoops!

Please don’t post serial numbers. Nero is buggy even in v. 7. Try another burning app. ImgBurn is freeware. See if you can burn with ImgBurn.

Sorry !!!

I tried to edit the post , to remove the serial number but it won’t let me

i have downloaded imgburn so will give that a try. However i believe i may of been having the problems with ver 6. i guess if i remove 7 and put s6 back on i will still have problems because not all the files will be removed.

I had this error on Imgburn!

Try burning at 12X instead. Someone in forum has said that sometimes burns are faster at 12x instead of 16X.

i’ve tried 8x speed before and i get fails :frowning:

Then it must be crap media or you have to clean the drive/lens.

The media has worked fine for me before, a mate uses it fine too !!

It’s even won an award from what video !!

How can i clean the lens/drive ? is there anything that can be made out from the error logs ?

Dells are special dude!LOL

Update your BIOS at Dell and set and check all your BIOS settings! F2 BTW on boot!
Turn on all your channels in the BIOS! Make the 109 Master on the only IDE channel you have BTW! Got 2 8400’s and one 9100! very nice boxes! BTW!

Get rid of DLA in that Sonic program they installed from the factory!
Also get rid of INCD in Nero! Use only one burning program active at a time! I use nero but Sonic works fine!

BTW! Sonic will sometimes copy a music disk that Nero won’t! Very strange!

That was me! maybe! LOL This is a very common problem in all my drives except the 3500! 12X burns are faster than 16X burns due to slow downs at the end! 8X is my preferred speed on all my drives with all media!

PS// you need a 1640 or 1655 to go with that 109!
I use my crossflashed 109(A10) to feed my 1640. Very good combo!

etp, your crossflashed 109 should be an A09.

i just got a 110D drive and still the same problem!!!

looks like i may have to do a software rebuild. I updated the bios on the 8400 this morning! no sonic installs on there!! i will check the jumper setting on the back !

Both drives a dud? would be a very weird coincidence.

Definatley something wrong with your setup/OS.

Yep! I have too many freaking drives! Can’t keep up with them all!

Chef! Does your MIJ A10 have a good quality feel about it? My ASUS MIC works fine but it seems to be more cheaply made than my A09 MIC!

Man I thought you found a way to crossflash 109 to A10! I was looking for the f/w until I saw chef’s comment.

They have different hardware, crossflashing is impossible (exception: if you want an expensive doorstop it could work).

Lol
