Pioneer 106 - Help

Hi!!!

Let me tell you,

after searching through this forum for some days, I bought a pioneer 106 which I got yesterday. I chose this one because it seemed to work ok on an external USB2 case (I only have a laptop). But, mine doesn’t work. I’ve tried to burn a cd-rw using Nero 6.3.0.3 several times and all were falied except one (always a SCSI problem). I also tried to burn a cd-r (fujilim) twice and one was succesful and the other failed. And I also tried to burn a DVD-RW and I couldn’t.

I’m using windows XP home edition, and nero 6.3.0.3. The pioneer in the external case reads dvd’s and cd-r/rw pretty well but it seems it can’t write on them.

DMA’s are activated. And it always fails because of a SCSI failure. What can I do?

Thank u in advance,

(sooy 4 my English :))

And it always fails because of a SCSI failure.
What is the exact error code you get when this happens, as this will help us to help you?

This is what Nero says:

Today I tried to copy a DVD+R twice (TDK), and it failed again.
I’m thinking about giving the burner back. What should I do?

Thank U

got the same problem with my Memorex (Pioneer 106D) while in process of Lead-In (SCSI failure) on USB2.0 external enclosure as well. This is weird same burner same enclosure but only with one computer that always have problem with, other computer works just fine. I did format and reinstall winXP home and this problem still remain. Anyone have any idea?

Some things for you both to consider and neev if you can answer or try all of these options for me I might be able to help you further.

[ul]Are you sure your using USB 2.0, also make sure no other usb device is being used or connected at time of burning?
Can you connect through a firewire port as this seems to be more stable and faster than usb2.0?
Try burning at the slowest speed rather than 4x as this might be the problem.
[/ul]What is the make and model of your laptop out of interest.

Thank u for you interest,

Yes, it’s sure it’s USB2.0. And I have also tried to burn at 2x and it fails too. The thing is, that it begins to burn and when it’s at just 1% the burner fails.

My external case doesn’t support firewire.

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5100. P4 2,6, 512 MB.

I’ve been searching a lot and it seems that the burner is not compatible with the IDE controller or something like that (sorry, I’m not sure what I’m talking about). It’s something about the UDMA mode which seems not to be supported, but I don’t konw how to change it for the Pioneer (I konw how to change it for the internal device of the laptop, but not for the Pioneer as it is in an external case).

What is the make / model of this external case?

It has a NEC chipset. The box can bee seen here http://www.allcam.biz/products/usb525.html (it is the model BA52).
