last night i’ve upgraded the fw for my DVDR1648P1 to version P2.4 , and noticed that the drive doesn’t make the same noise when it reads, so i looked into it, and tried some data rate tests, with all types of media, and the drive didn’t manage to get past 12x in any test.

I’ve opened up Nero Infotool and it says that the driver can only read up to 12x now, but can write up to 16x :a (screenshot).
what’s going on here? How can i fix this, please help.

Hi,

possibly the new firmware has introduced new read speeds for whatever reason.
Either return back to the previous firmware or see if crossflashing to Benq (DW1640 - I am not exactly sure) is an option.

The 1648P is a BenQ 1640, just under the Philips name. Whatever you do, don’t get rid of it.

But… why, mamma? why would they do that?

Anyway, another issue, it seems like the “SolidBurn” feature is gone now, it’s nowhere to be found on Nero or anywhere, WTF?
