Phillips Dvd+Rw 8x?

Hi everyone!

I’m in a position to buy some Phillips +RW 8x here in Croatia but I’m concerned about the quality of these discs. The MID is Phillips RW8-000 and I did find it in my BenQs firmware so there shouldn’t be any problem with the burning.

However, I hadn’t been able to find any scans of these discs so I was wondering if any of you had any experience with them!

My burner is a BenQ 1640 ( currently @ BSLB) if that helps regaring the quality.

btw.I know some Verbatim or Sony +RW 8x would better regarding the quality but, unfortunately, they aren’t available here in Croatia.

Thanks , I looked it up on that page and it seems that they’re just mediocre media :frowning:

I’m still interested if anyone has had any experience with real Phillips branded RW8 discs rather than those Imation branded .

I’d buy and test them myself but I have to order at least a 5pack (store policy ,go figure) and I don’t want that money to go to waste.

Just watch out that you’re not getting CMC or anything like that… Philips is at least ok, but I think Verbatim or Plextor (Taiyo Yuden) are better.

CMC burns very well in Benq drives! There is no reason to avoid them if you have a burner that supports CMC properly. Contrary to popular belief, CMC discs are not crap (at least not nowadays), but they are still poorly supported in a number of firmwares and can lead to coasters with these. Thus the continued bad reputation, though it’s not really justified.

I get very good burns with most CMC media in my NEC and Benq drives, but my Pioneer 109 makes coasters out of them. Nothing to do with the inherent quality of the burner or the media, it’s just a firmware support issue.

The scan is from a very cheap CMC source, Datasafe printable. You can see that even under a so-so brand, and despite the high scanning speed (12X), they do well (considering the brand, I was myself quite surprised  ). Burnt @12X with SB ON for known media.
