Philips SPD2400, which drive?

Just noticed that SVP have started selling the
Philips SPD2400. I was wondering what drive it actually is incase i decide to buy it. Ive searched this site, but found no info.

Which drive is this? Is it even a BenQ?

Edit: From looking at the picture it looks like the DQ60, i didnt think philips had anything to do with that though.

Already discussed here http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=166579 still trying to get an answer myself. SVP bloke posted that he is is 80% sure it’s a LiteOn on another forum. Read above thread.

SVP just mailed me back to say it’s a SPD2400, some sort of east european bulk OEM drive from what I can see on the Phillips website.

I bought in Spain one of thes units. When I open a DVD-R disc

recorded with this unit in Nero CD-DVD Speed (Tab Scandisk) it

says “recorded with SONY DW-Q30A Y5H4” (y5h4 is the latest

firmware).
If you are thinking about buying one, you should note two things:
1.- The information you get when extracting some sectors may be

different from the one you get with other drives. I made two

Alcohol images RAW96 of the same cd with this unit and with

another. Differences reported by comp (in spanish):

(archivo1= file made with Philips)
(archivo2= file made with other DVD±RW)

Of course, I don’t know if the problem is with philips drive or

with the other (older) drive.

Anyone knows something about this ???

2.- It is able to get DPMS information (well, it has some annoying

spikes wich IN MY OPINION are too many for a new drive). If you

need it, I may post a sample image.

As further tests were necessary, I have made them:
1.- When extracting wav from CD Audio Philips all my drives retrieved different information. I tried extracting with 3 drives (SPD2400 included) the same audio track and I found the information was different in all them! (again I tested with comp and get more than 10 differences in all the tests.
2.- When reading RAW data form cds, it seems the drive has problems to read SUB-96.
I made ccd images of an original disk with Philips, another DVD±RW, a DVD-ROM reader and an old 16x CD reader. .img files were exactly the same (reported by comp), but differences appeared with .sub data: The only drives capable of reading SUB-96 were the DVD±RWs (Philips and another) and sub files were different. The other unit is older but was more expensive than the Philips. I don’t know which one reads SUB wrong.

Hi,

hey, this thread is more than a year old

This is a rebadged Liteon SHW-1635S. Nothing else.

If you are thinking about buying one
There are better drives available

Michael

This is old thread so I hope some off topic woudn’t heart.

European members can get a “real” BenQ with Philips Nexperia chip.
Just google for DVD8801 or Lite-On DW1650.

Hehe, if I wanted, I could even get real retail Benq DW1655 or Philips 1660/8 or EW164B  . Retail stores downtown are worth looking  They even had 1620/5 there, for horror prices
