[qanda]This thread is about the Panasonic DVD MULTI Drive DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I have several Dell Precision 470s running XP Pro, all of which have Philips DVD8701 DVD-RW drives. On a couple of them, the drive refuses to recognize that a DVD has been inserted. The auto run pops up but it insists that the kind of disk is "Blank CD" and asks my if I want to "Open writable CD folder".
In my computer the disk lable is "CD Drive (E:)" and not its title "hhh" as it appears on the other systems.
These are the troubleshooting steps that I have performed:
1) I have swapped out a known good drive for a known bad one. The issue stayed with the system and did not follow the drive.
2) I uninstalled the drive in device manager
3) I uninstalled the IDE channel in device manager
4) I swapped out with another brand of DVD and have confirmed that the same brands works on "good systems".
I am a relative newbie to DVD drives so would appreciate any insight or additional troubleshooting steps that anybody could recommend. Thanks in advance!
