PHILIPS DVD8631 won't burn! 6 Coasters so far!

Hoping someone can offer advice… I have a Fujisu Siemens PC which came with the Philips 8631 DVD burner… Up until last week I had no issues burning ROMs and now it keeps failing…

I tried installing the IDE and rebooting but still no joy.

Can you help plz!

Welcome to the forum :slight_smile:

RITEK G05 (the media code of the discs you’re using) is probably the worst media. Even if they burn successfully, they’ve been known to become unreadable in as little as weeks (I’ve got personal experience of that, unfortunately :().

DMA settings etc all check out, and given the (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) in your log, the drive doesn’t seem to get on well with the discs anyway.

I’d try better quality discs - preferably Verbatim or Sony.

Maybe other members will pick up on something I may have missed. :slight_smile:

I’ve had these disks for over 2 years and I’m onto my second pack of 25!

I’ll try a different brand and report back.

Also any ideas why I can’t upgrade the firmware to GD30? The SW I download won’t update the drive because the current firmware is 2X16…
