Philips dvd8631 conversion to benq 1620

I have read some past posts about this subject. My question is this: I have a Philips dvd8631 drive on my Dell 4700. I am using verbatim dvd+r 8x and 16x media as well as verbatim dvd+r dl 2.4x media. I have not encountered any problems except that it is pretty slow burning. Will it be to my benefit to flash this drive to a benq 1620 or 1620 pro? If so, what is the best firmware to do this with? I guess the latest firmware is the B7W9. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

B7w9 but it is still burn slow if you want good quality

How slow is ‘pretty slow’ ?

4x or 8x, I rarely burn with this I use for scanning only

The 1620 with B7W9 is probably the best BENQ drive ever!!! until today, this drive burn some media better than the new generation and I know what I am talking about since I have them all (see my signature).
This drive is also a better audio ripper as it doesnt cache during the the rip process.
If your drive is slow, (or give poor result at higher speed) it is probably failed or something is wrong within your computer
