Device not available
D: PHILIPS DVD±RW SDVD8431

…it starts the burning process catches files etc then says the device is not available? but it is. i have checked the properties of the device and it says its working fine.

If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated, i must also say these problems have increased since installing Anydvd but i dont know if that is part of this specific problem, i have tried the Philips intelligent agent and there is no updates available for this code, in fact there is no info about this drive on the Philips website at all…anybody got any firmware or anything?

Thanks

i too have bought a fujitsu laptop with this drive and i also get errors when writing dvd’s and cd’s. i have read that this burner is very particular to the media you use. i have only had 1 succesful audio cd at the moment using datawrite cd’s my firmware is LX51

Hi All, Snap! my DVD was on the fritz and eventually disappeared altogether. Device manager said drivers were missing or corrupted. I searched for drivers and got VERY frustrated! I eventually called Phillips. Their premium rate, out of warranty, number is:

09065151180. I think it costs £1.50 a minute.

Im glad I did! it wasn’t the Drivers it was something to do with the “Registry” that had to be dealt with in “Registry Editor”. I can’t remember all the steps but in ten minutes and after a restart my DVD was back and working!

Well worth the call. I would never have dreamed of fiddling around in the Registry.

Talking to the guy whilst waiting for the restart I remembered it had been on the fritz after installing i-tunes and had stopped working after I uninstalled i-tunes. Something had to be deleted from the Registry that caused the problem and i was told that it is caused by certain programs being added.

Sorry I can’t give you more details on how to do it but I dont want to “guess” and destroy your machine. I’m assuming however if you know a good computer person they will know what it’s all about.

I would like to add I dont work for phillips so i’m not trying to get you to spend your money on the call! I’m just sharing what I did to get my Amilo’s DVD working again. Hope this helps, T x
