Philips accuses Taiwan optical disc maker Lead Data of royalty underpayment

MOPS, December 26; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Friday 26 December 2008]
Royal Philips Electronics on December 16 charges filed with Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Court against Lead Data, a Taiwan-based maker of blank optical discs and a licensee of Philips patents, claiming Lead Data has underestimated its optical disc output in an attempt to pay less royalty fees, according to a Lead Data December 25 filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).

Philips asked the court to award NT$10 million (US$303,000) in compensation for the unreported optical disc volumes. However, Lead Data denied the charges and said it has retained legal representation to handle the litigation.
