Philips 8881

Today I noticed a new Dell Optiplex system at work, and ofcourse I was wondering what kind of DVD writer is inside. Windows XP’s device manager notes a Philips 8881 dvd writer is inside, but I can’t seem to find any info about it online. Is this a rebadge maybe especially for Dell systems?

This sitemakes me suspect it is a sata drive and a BenQ rebadge, but unfortunately I can’t read Chinese characters.

Philips [DVD]8881 is most probably a Litey SH-16A7S rebadged with some functions like DVD-RAM capabilities disabled to make it cheaper.

Anybody else have some ideas?

BTW schweino, what firmware version are your drive on and at what OptiPlex.

That would be a Dell Optiplex 745 and the 8881 firmware is AD18

There’s a thread about it here:

Why not open it and find out for sure.

Because it is a work PC and they wouldn’t like me opening it up
