So what do you think? Its probably a Liteon right.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827248006

i’d say definitely a LiteOn, since they have a joint venture with Philips, the front bezel looks BenQ DW1670-ish and the only manufacturers with 20x burners are LiteOn and LG, AFAIK. It’s amazing how many ways are they trying to sell the same product…

Did you ever think of, that LiteOn may be a company operated by a powerful alien breed who are trying to overtake our planet by putting their components into every computer ?

One they those apparantely harmless DVD drives get activated and will wipe us out completely

OMG… have you watched I, Robot (the worst example for product placement, lol) too often or what?

Yep, LiteOn design for BenQ, Philips, Sony, and also manufacture for NEC/Optiarc and Plextor. That’s really much…

Similar to MBI who have now bought some Philips optical storage department…

yes it is lite on MediaTek MT1898E

about bezel… it match to all lite on drive

at least I got cool bezel

The SPD2413 firmware looks like a Liteon LH-20A1P firmware.

Too bad, no SolidBurn/HyperTuning/SmartWrite and OverSpeeding… IMGBurn only could enable or disable the WOPC.

Norton Antivirus strikes on 1.6GB, so the drive reduce the speed

Pardon my ignorance, but what is SolidBurn, HyperTuning, SmartWrite, OverSpeeding and WOPC?

Edit: A Google search found me 3 out of 4 of those

Thanks.

I am (was?) getting close to buying this drive, but…

This is where you get the firmware for it:

www.storageupdates.philips.com/en/dvdrw.html

I’ve got one from ‘the egg’ recently and it is a decent drive for the money. It is kinda slow recognizing inserted DVDs, but other than that it works just like most modern burners. I’ve not seen any detailed reviews yet, but from my use it does good job burning all DVD media I have (MCC, AML, CMC…)

I’d recommend this drive even if it does not support some of the fancy functions. “…SolidBurn, HyperTuning, SmartWrite, OverSpeeding and WOPC…” are OK to have, however my PIONEER drives work perfectly fine without any of such…

My idea is to get a cheap drive and then hope it works with the media you have stocked on. From my experience there are no bad burners, but there are horrible burner/media combinations…

The change of getting a good drive is high, and all of them are made in China anyway…

crossflash possible?

I would say it can be crossflahed to BenQ DW2000:

http://service.benq.com.cn/UploadFile/Drivers/ZIP/DW2000_Firmware_6B33.zip

Then you get QSuite support, SolidBurn, WOPC, OverSpeed, TestWrite

Sorry to say Skylon, you won’t succeed a crossflash with stock DW2000 firmware. Remember, with MediaTek drives you also have to fool eeprom…

I’ll be back soon with an other type of test.

Yup, BenQ DW-2000, Lite-On LH-20A1P, and this Phillips SPD2413BD drive are all the same in hardware. With little effort you can flash them back and forth and decide which firmware you like the most…

I personally like BenQ personality the most, Phillips the least…

Lite-On is OK if you have no other choices…

Check this tread:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=218718

Good job everyone…

@lionwes, sorry to say, but DW2000 and LH-20A1P are all Lite-On hardwarewise (not that sure about firmware though).

And, I’m not sure yet if SPD2413 is the same until somebody proves it is, sofar nobody done this AFAIK.

@pinto2, sorry to say … LOL

Posted before in post #7…, now also the PHILIPS SPD2413P GP03 firmware looks like it should work on a LH-20A1P drive. At least bootcode and eeprom checksum match.

Thanks for heads-up ala42.

I read your post #7, “The SPD2413 firmware looks like a Liteon LH-20A1P firmware”…

But, not “looks the same as” LH-20A1P.

BTW, hopefully one member will send latest SPD2413 firmware my way soon.

I don’t know if you ever tried, before I get my eeprom modified, I have already tried to flash my DW1800 to a LH-18A1P and working fine. I get my eeprom modified just to flash it to a DW2000. So I am just doing a guess that the Lite-ON rebadged same-hardware-same-features drive would be crossflashable if u find the right model (just like DW2000 = 20A1P = SPD2413, or DW1800 = 18A1P = SPD2411P)

Once I have put the DW2000 eeprom in my drive, I could crossflash between DW2000 and LH-20A1P. I will try the Philips firmware and let you know the result.

Anyway, I guess DimeDeviL has crossflashed his DW1680(?) to a SPD2413BD with DW2000(?) eeprom checksum in above test (post #8). Yes, another guessing

Heh, I tried all that long ago…

Let us know if stock Philips firmware (as you linked to in post #12) works on a “DW2000” drive.

BTW, we are not here for guessing.

Well, the “look” of a firmware is a matter of definition

Even if original and rebadged firmwares differ in just one single bit, you can not 100% predict if they will work on a rebadged drive using the identical hardware.

Anyway, I have no doubt that the SPD2413P firmware will work on a LH-20A1P drive and I am absolutely sure you will post some screenshots to prove that
