Hi my friend has a problem. He came back from his holiday after 2 weeks, turned his pc on and it started smoking. He checked what it was and a chip on his 2nd Harddrive had burnt marks on it and was damaged. So he took this out, but then his pc no longer started, but at times the power supply would spin very sligthly as did the cpu fan, but at times switching it on would also do nothing.
So then I tried my powersupply and it didnt solve the problem, causing very slight spinning and at further attempts nothing, (luckily the PSU still worked when i put it back in my pc !).
So we thought if its not the PSU then must be the motherboard, so he brought a brand new MSI KT400 motherboard hoping this would fix it. But still the same problem persists. This time something was smoking and we couldnt indentify where it was coming from. Everything seems secure and nothing seems to have shorted. We turned the PSU back on and by not even powering on the system the PSU and CPU fan started spinning again on its own, and there was a bright spark and crackle from the PSU this time.
Any ideas what is the problem ????
