Thanks much, that is very helpful and kind of you to answer. I was looking for a cheaper external drive and in my country this was on a good offer. But will look for something better now. I am looking for a drive that has very good write quality for BD-R discs, not for films but for data backups. Is there any drive you know that jumps out at you for this purpose?
I did read reviews at CDRlabs but could not find this data.
If the Samsung SE-506AB is available where you live, that would be a good choice for an external BD burner. I also like the Pioneer BDR-XD04. Or if your PC has eSata (or USB 3.0), you could get an external case and mount a desktop burner in it for external use. Current LG and Pioneer burners would work well for this.
