Overburning DVD R with LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H on Mac?

[qanda]This thread is about the Lite-On LH-20A1H. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I have the mentioned drive and I’m trying to burn a DMG image in Leopard with this size (as reported by Disk Utility):

Total Capacity : 4.5 GB (4,849,664,000 Bytes)
Used : 4.4 GB (4,765,691,904 Bytes)

I tried with a DVD+RW first and LiquidCD 2.0 and the burn failed. So before trying again with DVD+R, my questions are:

  • I’m assuming only the “used” amount of bytes will be written to the disc, is that correct?
  • Is it overburning almost 66 MB feasible with this drive?
  • Any recommended software to overburn on Mac?

The only burners capable of DVD overburning are true BenQ and Plextor burners.
And even with one of them, it’s risky (but I think 66MB would be possible on good media).

Try a DVD-R.
