Out of these drives, which would you recommend?

I’m on a tight budget, so I was looking at drives around the $35-40 CDN price range.

These are the one’s I’ve been looking at

LG GSA-H22N

LiteOn LH-18A1P

LiteOn SHW-160P6S
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=009983&cid=CR.184

NEC ND-3550

Pioneer DVR-111D

Samsung SH-S182D

If you’re asking me what I want from the drives, I am basically looking for a drive that is reliable in terms of durability. I don’t mind slower read/writing speeds, as long as it makes good burns and lasts a long time. The thing that I will be backing up the most will be PS2 games.

One thread is enough for your question and you don’t need to create 5 more threads of the same question in each of the Optical Drive forums. This is called “cross posting” which is not allowed according to the Forum Rules. Cross posting will create more work for our members and yourself. It is easier to organize your question and check back responses in one thread.

Oh, sorry.

I’ve been asking around, too…

From what I’ve learned, the Pioneer 111D has the best write quality on most media, and good build quality.

I don’t have one, yet, though…

The Nec ND-3550 is a relatively old model, I’m not sure it is up to par with the rest of today’s writers. Seems like the latest burner from the NEC line is the Optiarc AD-7170/3.

Personally…the LiteOn SHW-160P6S, or the Samsung SH-S182D.

Regarding the Samsung - I just started really playing with mine, and trying different media on it. It burns almost everything well, I’m really pleased with it.

The LiteOn 6S drives (one of which you mentioned) are excellent drives too. :iagree:
