OPU/LD in Lite-On 18/20X DVD Burner

Recently there is a guy dissassemble his DW2000 (with “S” firmware) and take a look on the OPU model, it’s a DS10HLF (Sanyo SF-DS10HL). This OPU has been used in 18A1P/18A1H series of Lite-On drives, now it’s in a drive which believed to use Sharp LD.

My question is, is anyone there with 20A1P or 20A4P “A” could take apart their drive and take a look on the OPU? May be SHARP LD never exist? May be it’s a typo by firmware writer? (SHARP vs SANYO). Can anyone verified the “Mitsubishi” LD is used in previous drives too?

Thanks Skylon, it may be best to have this in a new thread? Here’s my two drives:

I recently upgraded my firmware using Imgburn, the firmware was 9p59.

Thanks Cressida and j999d for the feedback. Three of the drives appear to use Sanyo OPU.

Cressida’s:
18A1H is using Sanyo SF-DS10
20A4P “A” is using Sanyo SF-DS17

j999d’s LH-20A1P is using Sanyo SF-DS10.

Edit: Somehow I’m thinking that the HLD text string in 20A4P “S” bootcode might related to the DS10HLx?

Further researching discovered that the SF-DS10L OPU is originally designed for 18X, but several ODD manufacturer also uses them for 20X drives (it stated SONY , LG, BENQ, LITEON). - Link (Photo)

The SF-DS17 is designed for 20X, use by SONY , LG, BENQ, LITEON . - Link (Photo)

Here’s another one:

Model: LH-20A1P186C Manufactured Date: April 2007

Blue sticker (which in this one is actually black): 10E

The other sticker shows DS10HLFH

Thanks jolfe, now I can say that most (if not all) A1 drives are using SF-DS10.

Now I just need more information for the A4 “A” and “S” drives. I hope that anyone there with any A1 or A4 “A”/“S” drives feel free to check the OPU model and report it here.

I guess from this posts that this is a Sanyo OPU.

Thank you, yes, that is a Sanyo OPU.

This is what I’ve collected so far.

Thanks j999d. The DW2000 “S” owner just told me his drive is using a SF-DS17 instead of SF-DS10.

Haven’t seen a 20A4P with DS10 OPU yet.

So it looks like all OPU’s are Sanyo and Sanyo uses different LD’s depending on the model no.

If all A1 drives use DS10, then an 18 to 20 upgrade should be safe, but I still have my doubts about crossflashing A1 to A4. If A4 firmware is tuned for different LD’s than A1, then this might explain some of the premature drive failures we’ve seen here.

We need more data guys, open up your drives!

I know it’s late, but thanks for giving me a reason to destroy my Litey.

Erratic 8x scanning, jitter @ 4x was always believable, though.
