Optorite manufacture them. (www.optorite.com if I remember correctly).

Optorite is a quite large manufacturer. The produce most of MSI’s DVD writers and CD-R Writers. The also manufacture drives for sony, that includes sonys latest 8x DVD-Writer the DRU-530A.

I have little experience with their drives tough. I have a Optorite CW-5202 and it’s work just fine.

Yes, Optorite produces ODD products. They won’t, and probably never, be made by Liteon. Compa had bought 40% share of Optorite from MSI in december 2003. Right now, Compa is the biggest shareholder of Optorite. Compa is beginning to merge ODD department with Optorite.

Optorite sells its products at a lower price than rivals in taiwan. Though I hold conservative attitude towards their DVD burners.
