Optical Disk Drive Products Antitrust Litigation

Some interesting news with regard to ODD drives.

From https://www.opticaldiskdriveantitrust.com/#five

“This antitrust class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiffs alleging a conspiracy involving ODD suppliers to fix, maintain, or stabilize the prices of ODDs at artificially high levels in violation of federal and state antitrust laws.”

Sorry if this should go to the news forum, as I thought it may be more appropriate for this area of the forum instead.

How interesting that this kind of stuff goes down AFTER the technology begins to go out of favor.

Several days ago I received an e-mail that I thought was trash and sent it there, but I didn’t delete it. After reading the post above, I opened it and found that it’s a notice that I am eligible to make a claim in this lawsuit. The message contains links to submit a claim and to get additional information through www.opticaldiskdriveantitrust.com. The message reads, in part:

"You are eligible for up to $10/drive from settlements reached in antitrust litigation currently pending in Federal court. This is an estimate of the settlement amount which could increase or decrease.

“ODD refers to a DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, or COMBO drive sold by a number of manufacturers including Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology, Lite-On, and Pioneer.”

I fear this might be accelerating the decline in ODD production. It would certainly not encourage the producers to stay in the business for longer.
