There was some price fixing on PC mfg's when drives in the open market were approcahing $10 a drive while contract prices were at lest 2 - 3 times that price, go figure..
Then you can retailers limiting drive purchaes to 5 for each customer so the big guys couldn't take from the retail market...
Blu Ray is a whole OTHER rip off story.. and they should be sued right along with the BLU RAY CONSORTIUM!!!!!
Blu Ray drives should be $10 by now and the 25gb discs should be about 5 cents each by now.. if not for the blu ray royalties having them between 50 cents and several dollars depending on quality and size.. what a frickien fiasco it's been.. and you only hav eto look at HDD MFG's who now have surpassed optical industry in price/value ratios to make you not even want to use optical media anymore. Why bother, when you can just BUY backup drives as redundancy.. it's highly improbable you would lose the same file on two drive in a 1:1 backup when they are from different MFG produced at different times vs what might happen to an optical disc in the same relative time frame (10 - 15 years)
