[qanda]This thread is about the Optiarc AD-7173A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I have a problem with my DVD-RW. It is quite happy to read and write CDs, CD-RW discs and DVD+Rs but it will not write/record to DVD+RW. I have tried to format and write to these discs but it comes up with an error asking me to ensure that the disc is compatible with the drive or not scratched.
I've tried to flash the DVD drive but I'm unable - I get a checksum error with NECWinFlash despite changing the primary and secondary IDE drives to PIO mode only (from UDMA mode). I'm totally stumped. Any ideas?
Typically a media issue. Try a different brand of media, preferably Verbatim.

Thanks for the reply! I tried expressburn when Nero wouldn’t work. Both reported the same error
Any further ideas anyone?
Using the same disc or a different disc? It’s possible the brand of disc you are using isn’t properly supported by your burner. For best results, especially with RW media, use Verbatim.
Also, if Nero had trouble, there will be an error log.
