So, I'm sitting at my roommate's Acer Aspire 5570z right now writing this. Recently, the Optiarc AD-7530A DVD-RW drive in it quit reading CDs a week or so ago and, I just confirmed right now, it no longer reads DVDs as well. The issue is that it doesn't even detect a disc that is in it. However, when I do insert one I can here the disk clicking or scraping every few seconds in what I can only assume is an attempt to function normally. If I attempt to manually open or explore the drive it simply ejects the drive and tells me to insert a disc. I already checked the drivers (they are up to date) and confirmed that the notebook's manufacturer has not announced a recall. I have confirmed that DMA is enabled. My (relative) area of expertise is software and not hardware so I don't really know where to go from here. I'm usually able to fix most of the problems that arise on mine and my friend's machines but I'm coming up with nil on this one. Can anyone provide any help?
Edit: /facepalm Forgot to add the OS: Vista SP1
