Optiarc AD-7191A lost the ability to burn DVD-Rs

[qanda]This thread is about the Optiarc AD-7191A. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]The drive can read and write any type of CD fine, it can read any type of DVD fine and it burns DVD+Rs with out an issue, but it won’t burn DVD-Rs.

I’ve tried both Sony and Verbatim discs with IMGBurn, Nero and Magic Iso. All burning programs report the discs as not empty. I’ve also moved the DVD writer to multiple computers with WinXP SP3 to make sure it wasn’t a registry issue. I’ve re-flashed the drive and even cross-flashed it with the DH-20A3H drivers but, the results are always the same.

The issues started about 2 month ago, for no apparent reason, where it would just randomly not be able to burn DVD-Rs, but it would always just start working again after a day. It hasn’t been able to burn DVD-Rs for over 2 weeks now.

Is there any type of utilities or diagnostics I can run to see why this started happening and potentially fix it?

If it can burn +R then it can burn -R too.

I’m not sure what log file you wanted, but here is the information from ImgBurn on a DVD-R and a DVD+R, you can see the Blank DVD-R isn’t being read properly.

please boot up in SAFE MODE and try with imgburn again. Post the info.
