If you have this model or a similar one and you use Vista, please access Event Viewer, the System Log, and see if you have any of these:
Event ID: 51
"An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom1 during a paging operation."
I get these whenever I insert either a blank CD or DVD (only blanks). It's typically 4 or 5 for a CD+R and about 10 for a DVD+R
The Event Viewer help indicates it's just an informational message and no action is required, but I'd like to know what's causing it since it's filling up the log. It's obviously bogus, since there's not even any data on the media and there can be no paging related to blank media.
The messages almost never appear any other time than when inserting media.
Burns do work (internal drive, 80-wire cable, on the controller by itself, DMA and not PIO).
I verified this issue before and since SP1 (Ultimate).
I found one other thread similar to my problem here:
But I'm starting a new thread since that one's old, he had more problems than I did (e.g. bad burns), the solution he found doesn't work for me (no ReadyBoost), and this is a different drive.
Any questions, please ask.
