Optiarc 7190 missed tracks

I have 2 Optiarc 7190s. My wife inadvertently knocked the tray off the top burner. I tried repeatedly to replace the tray, but it wouldn't return to the completely closed position. I removed the burner from the case and took apart the burner case. I found the problem and got the tray back in and it operates fine. I decided to burn a test music cd using Nero 7 essentials. The cd according to Nero completed successfully. When I tried playing the cd a few tracks would play fine. Others would play as shown by the advancing timer, but there was no sound. I tried the cdr on several other players with the same result. The tracks show up but several produce no music. What could cause this problem? Do I need to replace the burner? It worked fine before the tray incident.

Welcome to the forum.
I don’t think the “no sound” tracks is a problem with the burner, this sounds more like a problem with Nero encoding.
Also, it’s not wise to burn an audio CD to fast. Did you write the disc at max speed? Try 16x or 24x max, for audio CD’s.

You know I didn’t even check the write speed. I never had a problem with it before the tray mishap, so didn’t even think about it. I will try another burn and see what happens.

Well going down to 16x didn’t fix the problem. What free sw do you recommend instead of Nero? I would like to try it before I give up burner. The funny thing is the other identical drive works fine.

I use Exact Audio Copy for burning audio CD’s. It’s free too.

Well it was Nero. I used a copy of CDburnerxp that I had forgot about. It worked perfectly. Thanks for help and the tip on Exact Audio Copy. I down loaded it and will try it next.
